What is your company history?
Our family has a lifetime of experience in the funeral industry in New Albany and Floyd County and we own Generations Funeral Home in New Albany. Through our daily work with our funeral home client families, we began to realize there was a strong need for this community to have a place to view, select, and order memorials for their loved ones. For many years, New Albany had such a company until it ceased operations a few years ago.We began this business in 2008 in response to that need and filling that void.
What sets you apart?
We are the only full-service, full-time monument company in New Albany that offers you an opportunity to view a wide selection of monuments and memorials on site.We pride ourselves on our hometown family ownership and service, affordability, and integrity.
What are the advantages to selecting a monument before we actually need it?
First, there’s peace of mind. As we have learned at Generations Funeral Home with funeral pre-planning, it is simply an enormous relief for families to have these decisions made in advance of a time of crisis and grief. Many family members and friends especially wish to visit the cemetery in the first days, weeks, and months following the death of their loved one. Having a monument already in place, with a means for displaying flowers in vases or on a stone, can be especially comforting in that early period following a death. On a very practical level, selecting your monument now can save you and your family money. Several years from now, the same monument you would select today would likely be available at a much higher cost.
What do monuments typically cost?
Because there is such a wide range of choices and options, from types of stones to colors, raised lettering, engraving, or laser etching, it simply isn’t possible to give you a “typical” cost. If budget is a particular consideration, as it is for most of our families, we will focus on recommending materials and strategies for lowering your monument costs.

What are some things we need to consider when looking at monuments?
First of all, think about what you really like and dislike in a monument. You may want to visit a few cemeteries with your family, look around, and discuss your preferences. You may want to take along a camera and shoot some photos of what you like. Our samples here can provide you with some additional ideas. We also have photographs and books you can look through to get some ideas.
When selecting a monument, you will be considering things like:
- Do you want a traditional or flat stone? Many times, this will be dictated by the cemetery where you have purchased burial plots.
- What shape do you prefer?
- What color stone do you prefer?
- Would you like traditional engraved lettering, raised lettering in materials such as bronze, or even reproduction of a photo or words via laser etching?
- Do you want vases or others options for floral placement?
Our customer service representative can help you sort out these options and get the memorial that best meets all of your needs.
What if we want something really different and unusual?
You are limited only by your imagination. For example, we have a sculpture artist who does commissioned sculpture work. We have many options for stone shapes and themes that reflect religious, civic, military, or hobby preferences. We also offer options for things such as memorial benches for a grave site.We can reproduce photography or writing such as poems or tributes. We will help you achieve what you really want at the most affordable price possible and help to recommend cost economies.
How long does it take to get a monument installed?
Generally, it takes eight weeks to six months from the time your order is placed. Of course, special orders involving sculpture or custom art may take longer. Once your monument is chosen, we can tell you more specifically what to expect.
What cemeteries/memorial parks do you work with?
With our funeral home background, we have established working relationships with all of the cemeteries and memorial parks in southern Indiana and many in metro Louisville. We’re familiar with their regulations and will carefully coordinate your installation with them, ensuring their regulations are met.
What if we already have an older monument in a local cemetery and aren’t happy with it? Is it ever possible to remove or change what is already there?
Yes—this question is more common than you think! Many families end up making hasty decisions during a time of grief and wish they could re-think their choice. It would be helpful for you to send/bring in a photo of your current monument so we can work with you on making some recommendations.
Since Generations is also a funeral home, are there advantages to pre-planning both funeral/burial and memorial?
Absolutely—it always gets down to peace of mind and cost savings to you and your family. If you haven’t yet selected your funeral home or made funeral and burial arrangements, we will be happy to meet with you about that, as well.
What if I want to be cremated?
We offer a wide selection of urns for display and cremain containers for burial.
My family is considering a piece of ground in a cemetery for a larger mausoleum. Can you help us with that?
Yes. We have a selection of family mausoleum designs for your consideration or you can partner with us in designing your own structure.
This may sound unusual but do you happen to offer markers for pets?
Yes. Pets are an important part of your family, too. So, we offer several options for pet stones or memorials.
